Traffic Safety Prosecution Unit

The SC Commission on Prosecution Coordination serves as a resource for prosecutors by providing the coordination of specialized training, continuing professional education opportunities, quality up to date legal reference material, and the necessary technical assistance for reducing the rates of impaired driving in South Carolina. Within the Commission is the Traffic Safety Resource Unit which has been designed to improve the ability of the state’s prosecutor to effectively prosecute impaired driving and other related traffic cases.

The TSRP Unit is composed of the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP) and a TSRP Administrative Assistant. The TSRP is an attorney who serves as a coordinator of highway safety issues between and among criminal justice disciplines in the detection, investigation and prosecution of impaired driving enforcement.

With the assistance and coordination of seasoned professionals, the current resources provided by the TSRP Unit include: a DUI Prosecutor’s manual; two DVDs entitled, “Grave Decisions” and "Grave Consequences", case law updates; quarterly training for prosecutors, law enforcement, and summary court judges; a quarterly newsletter “Behind the Wheel” and various other forms of technical assistance for the prosecutors of South Carolina. These resources are made possible by a grant from the Office of Highway Safety within the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, and funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators.
